How a wet alarm valve works
From a bursting bulb to a signal at the panel in five steps.
- STEP 01
Standby
The clapper stays closed; pressure is equal on both sides and gauges read the same.
- STEP 02
Sprinkler opens
A head bursts from heat. Water flows and pressure above the clapper drops.
- STEP 03
Clapper lifts
Water pushes the clapper open and enters the alarm line.
- STEP 04
Alarm sounds
The water motor gong rings and the pressure switch signals the fire panel.
- STEP 05
Retard chamber
Absorbs short surges so pressure spikes don't cause false alarms.
